What are the requirements for a North Carolina vehicle inspection? During a safety inspection, a licensed mechanic examines a vehicle's headlights, signals, brakes, steering, windows and tires. Motor vehicles registered in 19 North Carolina counties​ must also pass an emissions inspection, which is conducted at the same time as the safety inspection. 

 What does correct alignment mean? Alignment refers to an adjustment of a vehicle's suspension – the system that connects a vehicle to its wheels. It is not an adjustment of the tires or wheels themselves. The key to proper alignment is adjusting the angles of the tires which affects how they make contact with the road. 

 How would I know if I need a oil change?Checking your oil level regularly is an essential practice. If you notice that the oil level on the dipstick is significantly lower than the recommended level, it's a clear indicator that you need an oil change. Low oil levels can lead to inadequate lubrication, potentially causing engine damage. 

 How often do brakes need to be replaced? As a general rule, you should get your brake pads replaced every 10,000 to 20,000 miles to keep wear to a minimum. When it comes to your rotors, you have a bit longer. Your rotors should be replaced between 50,000 and 70,000 miles to keep your brakes in peak health. 

 What does a tune up include?Generally, a tune-up consists of checking the engine for parts that need cleaning, fixing, or replacing. Common areas under inspection include filters, spark plugs, belts and hoses, car fluids, rotors, and distributor caps. Many of these only require a visual inspection or a simple test. 

 How do I know if my car AC needs to be recharged?         The best indicator for if your AC needs recharged is the cooling of your AC system, if it is not cooling, can't maintain pressure, or won't activate, it may be time for an AC recharge. 

 What does a full car diagnostic include? The test will report on the engine, transmission, ignition coils, exhaust, oil tank, fuel injectors, throttle, coolants, airflow and other systems. The diagnostics check will not include the cost of repairs, replacement parts or recoding.
